New Covid Cases Linked to Auckland Rest Home

Today there are two new cases of Covid-19, one confirmed and the other probable, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

Both cases are related to St Margaret Hospital and the Nursing Home in Auckland.

The confirmed case is a family contact of a previously confirmed case linked to the cluster.

The probable case is a nurse employed by the Waitemata District Board of Health who has been in isolation and is now considered a probable case. Both new cases remain in self-isolation at home.

The nurse had been caring for St Margaret’s patients at Waitakere Hospital and was among close contacts of other previously reported positive cases.

The affected areas at Waitakere Hospital remain closed for new admissions and multiple precautions have been taken in the past week.

The number of cases today and tomorrow will be of particular interest to inform the cabinet’s decision on Monday on the change to alert level 2.

There are 1,368 people who have recovered, which is 92 percent of all confirmed and probable cases, an increase of 21 from yesterday.

There are two people at the hospital, one at Middlemore and North Shore Hospitals. Neither of them is in the ICU.

There are still 16 significant groups, four of which are now considered closed.

There are no additional deaths to report, which means the number is still 21.

The total number of confirmed cases has reached 1,142, with 350 probable cases.

The low number of new cases occurred despite the 7204 tests processed yesterday, bringing the total number of tests completed to date to 183,039.

This equates to 3.5 percent of the population and places New Zealand in the top 20 countries per capita for testing, the ministry said.

New Zealand remains on Alert Level 3, and the Cabinet will make the decision to move to Alert Level 2 on Monday.

“The Ministry’s advice is still to play it safe, since nobody wants a second wave. Keep working and learning from home. Keep your distance from others when you are out of your bubble. The parties are not yet active. It is still local , travel alone within your region. ” “

There is no government press conference today.
