A new report from Coach UK It has appeared claiming that Ford is working on an all-wheel drive hybrid monster to lead the next generation Mustang.
Ford confirmed in 2017 that it would launch an electrified Mustang this year, but those plans were delayed to coincide with the next-generation model and allow the Mach-E electric SUV to debut earlier.
The hybrid Mustang will use a “dual-engine transmission system,” according to a US patent application. USA, which works in conjunction with a V8 engine. The engines would power the front wheels, “mounted directly on opposite sides of the engine,” while the V8 donk would motivate the rear wheels.
This will help save fuel while improving performance. A similar setup is seen in the North American Ford Explorer Hybrid, which lends credence to the report, as the next Mustang will be based on the same CD6 platform as the Explorer.

Ford is likely to use the knowledge gained from the Mach-E in the electrified Mustang to further increase performance. This could include sophisticated torque vectoring technology.
It will be interesting to see if hybrid systems seep into smaller Mustangs, like the turbocharged Ecoboost version. We figured it would be a matter of money rather than packaging issues.
A hybrid Ecoboost could be a great affordable option, in addition to giving Ford a powertrain for the recently deceased next-generation Focus RS.
Alternatively, give the GT500 the hybrid gubbins and create a 745kW beast to take on the rumored top-tier hybrid Corvette.
As for the design of the next Mustang, we do not believe that Ford radically changes the look, but instead opts for a smooth and modern evolution. Electrified models could get a different pony badge to indicate different powertrains, as well as other subtle body adjustments.
Coach UK He believes that the Mach-E’s infotainment and driver assistance systems will appear in the next Mustang, while the interior of the sports car will be more driver-focused than the spacious SUV.
So given the choice, would you go for an exclusive-burning purist Mustang or a heavy tech hybrid with more power and fewer emissions?
