Outlander star Sam Heughan speaks out against ‘six years of constant harassment’ online

stranger Star Sam Heughan spoke on social media about what he calls “six years of constant bullying, harassment, harassment, and false stories” about him.

The 39-year-old Scottish actor said Thursday in a lengthy post on his Instagram and Twitter accounts that he has been the subject of a series of claims that he has cheated and attempted to extort money from fans.

Heughan said criticism has reached a critical point about his isolation in Hawaii during the coronavirus outbreak.

He said he traveled to Hawaii before the situation worsened.

“I am nervous about taking 3 to 5 flights back to the UK, around 20 hours on various planes, exposing myself to more danger, to be stuck in a city,” he said. “Following the advice of everyone I trust, I decided to stay in a safe environment. It was a good decision.”

The posts inspired devout fans of stranger to start the #IStandWithSam hashtag, and has received hundreds of support tweets.

Heughan said he cannot give details about most of the abuse he has received for legal reasons, but said people in his position should not have to tolerate the hate they receive on social media.

“As an actor these days, we feel powerless,” he said.

“We can’t do much, but I’ve tried to use the leverage I have to give a voice to charities that need it and hopefully a bit of entertainment or slight relief. For those who are still unhappy, I suggest you stop follow”.
