Capcom “href =” https://www.videogameschronicle.com/companies/capcom/ “> Capcom has given Resident Evil 4 the green light” href = “https://www.videogameschronicle.com/games/resident-evil- 4 / “> New version of Resident Evil 4.
After his reinvention of Resident Evil 2 (2019) “href =” https://www.videogameschronicle.com/games/resident-evil-series/resident-evil-2-2019/ “> Resident Evil 2 and 3, development Multiple sources told VGC that Resident Evil (series) “href =” https://www.videogameschronicle.com/games/resident-evil-series/ “> The new version of Resident Evil 4 has gone into full production with a launch window estimated in 2022.
The development is being led by Osaka-based M-Two, the new studio founded by former PlatinumGames director Tatsuya Minami, which has been preparing for the project since 2018.
However, similar to how Resident Evil 3 2020 (2020) “href =” https://www.videogameschronicle.com/games/resident-evil-3-2020/ “> Resident Evil 3 was led by the Red company Works, Capcom Internal Teams and other external studies are likely to provide support.
The new version is understood to be blessed by the game’s original director, Shinji Mikami, who officially rejected an approach to lead the project, but has provided informal advice on its direction.
The studio directing the new version has been in operation since 2018 and is comprised of many former Platinum and Capcom employees.
M-Two recently contributed to the development of 2019 Resident Evil 3, but his role in that game was always a precursor to his main project.
Resident Evil 4 of 2005 is Capcom’s highest rated game of all time, according to review aggregation site Metacritic, with sales totaling 7.5 million copies across multiple platforms.
The horror installment is considered one of the most influential games of the 2000s, with its off-the-shoulder point of view, in particular widely adopted by many third-person shooters who followed.
The game overhauled much of the tropes in the series up to that point, with survival items like sparse ammunition becoming less relevant and a faster, more tense pace introduced.
Even the series’ titular zombies were replaced by a fanatical religious cult. The Illuminati would swarm the player into large groups, instead of appearing as lone enemies, as in Resident Evil games.
In the 15 years since its release, Resident Evil 4 has been ported and remastered dozens of times, but has never been completely remade.
The game was released with new content for the PlayStation 2 “href =” https://www.videogameschronicle.com/platforms/playstation/ps2/ “> PlayStation 2 shortly after its Nintendo GameCube” href = “https: // www. videogameschronicle .com / platforms / nintendo-gamecube / “> Debut of GameCube, and a version of Wii arrived in 2007 for the purpose of motion control. Later an HD remaster was released for PS3, Xbox 360 “href =” https://www.videogameschronicle.com/platforms/xbox/x360/ “> Xbox 360 and PC” href = “https://www.videogameschronicle.com / platforms / pc / “> PC in 2011, and then again for Xbox One” href = “https://www.videogameschronicle.com/platforms/xbox/xb1/”> Xbox One and PlayStation 4 “href =” https: //www.videogameschronicle.com/platforms/playstation/ps4 / “> PlayStation 4 in 2016.
2020 Resident Evil 3 introduces a number of possible nods to the upcoming 4 remake, including the introduction of Parasite zombies, which look similar to the Resi 4 Plagues, and at least one Quick Time Event (QTE) -like sequence, which largely appeared in the fourth game
Although many original members of the Resident Evil 4 team remain at Capcom, it’s unclear if they have any involvement in the M-Two project. A person with development insight told VGC that the remake is being directed by a newcomer to the series.
The original primary encoder for Resident Evil 4, Kiyohiko Sakata “href =” https://www.videogameschronicle.com/people/kiyohiko-sakata/ “> Kiyohiko Sakata – another PlatinumGames” href = “https: //www.videogameschronicle. com / companies / platinumgames / “> PlatinumGames Veteran: He was the game director for the new version of Resident Evil 3.
Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi is also on Capcom and worked on Resident Evil 6, while Resident Evil 4 designer Kouji Kakae recently worked on Devil May Cry 5 “href =” https://www.videogameschronicle.com/games/ devil-may-cry -5 / “> Devil May Cry 5.
Resident Evil 4 original director Shinji Mikami was contacted to co-found M-Two, but declined the role due to his commitment to Bethesda’s GhostWire: Tokyo, they told VGC.
Another person with knowledge of the study suggested that the name “M-Two” was initially a reference to Mikami and Minami, who worked closely with Capcom and PlatinumGames.
The next entry in Capcom’s long-running series will be Resident Evil 8, which offers a continuation of the revamped first-person mechanic introduced with Resident Evil 7 from 2017.
Based on information provided by trusted insider information Golem Dusk and verified by VGC, Resident Evil 8 will launch on current and next-gen consoles in 2021.
Like Resident Evil 7, game 2021 will feature a first-person perspective and protagonist Ethan Winters.
However, the game will feature many narrative and mechanical games for the series, including hallucinations and insanity segments as well as mythical creature-based enemies like werewolves.
Resident Evil 8 will mark the series’ third consecutive annual release, after Resident Evil 2 2019 and Resident Evil April 3.
In recent years, Capcom has successfully focused on creating new games in its existing franchises. Resident Evil 2, released in January 2019, “exceeded expectations” with sales of close to six million units.
Resident Evil 3 launch sales are understood to be approximately one-third lower in Europe than its predecessor. The new version experienced a significant drop in physical sales, which is not surprising considering that stores are closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Capcom was not available for comment at the time of this story.
