CORONAVIRUS deaths in the UK soared to 26,097 today when Dominic Raab warned that the risk of a second confinement is “very real”, while hospices may be left without personal protective equipment “in days.”
The foreign minister warned against loosening the closure restrictions, adding that the government should not “gamble” on the progress it has already made.
Speaking at the daily Downing Street press conference this afternoon, Raab said it is “vital” that the government proceed with care.
He referred to Germany and said that the next step in the fight against the coronavirus had to be “safe”.
The news comes with the UK shutdown expected to be reviewed after the restrictions were put in place on March 23.
Today’s death toll is an increase of 4,419 in yesterday’s count and it is the first time that the number of deaths outside the hospital has combined with those of a hospital since the crisis began.
Dominic Raab also confirmed that 765 of the new deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours during the coronavirus press conference.
It comes amid fears that the UK may end Europe’s highest death rate, and Professor John Newton said the UK has looked worse than Germany “because of the way it spread.”
