How COVID-19 spreading across the world, it can be daunting to keep up to date with information. For RNZ, our responsibility is to provide you with verified, updated, and reliable information to help you make decisions about your life and health. We will also ask officials and decision makers questions about how they are responding to the virus. Our goal is to keep you informed.

There were 742 complaints from companies that did not comply with the rules on the first day of alert level 3, the majority for lack of social distancing.

At the Covid-19 press conference this afternoon, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the complaints will be followed up by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and the Ministry of Primary Industries.

Additionally, police recorded 104 violations in the first 18 hours of a Level 3 alert, of which 21 were prosecutions and 71 were warnings, Ardern said.

She said the rules are established for a reason and that it only takes one person to potentially affect many.

“We will not hesitate to take firmer measures if necessary.”
