Cleary, 22, was found to have been with at least five girls at a meeting reportedly held on April 25.
Channel 9 in Australia reports that Cleary claims that the women were friends of hers who had come to her home on Anzac day.
“My sister’s friends and girls that I’ve grown up with were drinking down the street and they came and showed up and said they were waiting for an Uber before going to someone else’s house,” she told Channel Nine yesterday. .
“Obviously, the moment they were here, a photo was taken, I had no idea until this morning.”
Cleary was fined $ 4,299 and suspended for one game, along with fellow stars Latrell Mitchell, Josh Addo-Carr, and Tyronne Roberts-Davis for similar infractions.
However, the videos posted on the social media platform TikTok would appear to contradict Cleary’s claims, with Panthers and the New South Wales midfielder and three others performing numerous choreographed dance routines.
The appearance of the videos has seen former Panthers boss Phil Gould call for more severe penalties against Cleary.
“If Nathan Cleary has lied about his involvement (a) That is obscenely stupid (b) It is worse than the original rape (c) He will have to live as a consequence of his actions,” Gould wrote.
“NRL will definitely reconsider the penalty imposed, which I considered too light in the first place.”
The NRL’s integrity unit is now investigating the videos, which have been removed from social media.
