Three lucky Christchurch Powerball players have scored a lot in the past six weeks, taking home a total of $ 21.5 million between them.
The city’s most recent winners took a whopping $ 5.5 million in last Saturday’s drawing and were “absolutely stunned” when they realized they were the big winners.
The couple, who want to remain anonymous, have been playing on MyLotto since the level 4 lockdown and purchased a ticket for Saturday’s drawing.
“We decided that we would stay with MyLotto even after closing,” said the winner.
The couple always check their tickets with breakfast on Sunday mornings, and this Sunday was no different.
“My husband handed me the iPad and asked me to review the results while he made us breakfast.
“Before we review them, he always says, ‘I have a good feeling this week, I definitely think we’ve won,'” the woman laughed.
The woman logged into her MyLotto account and viewed the cartoon, which she revealed was a winner. But the winning line was well below the ticket, so at the time I didn’t know what the prize was.
“I called my husband so I could repeat the drawing for him and that’s when we saw him: $ 5,500,000 on top of our ticket. We were absolutely flabbergasted.”
The couple finally sat down to their cheese on toast and started chatting about what this meant to them and what they would like to do with their windfall.
“After breakfast, we went for a walk and it was very strange to see other people thinking that they had no idea that we had become billionaires,” the woman said.
That afternoon, the couple went out to watch rugby and had a couple of drinks to celebrate their victory.
With the money now safe in their bank account, they hope to prepare for the future.
Another lucky couple won $ 5.5 million with Powerball in the drawing on Wednesday, September 16, while two weeks earlier, a Christchurch man won a life-changing $ 10.5 million on Wednesday, September 2.
The man planned to celebrate his victory with a “kitchen” with his family and is eager to buy the car of his dreams: a Lamborghini.
