The state reported another 30 cases in the 24 hours to 9 a.m. Sunday with 28 linked to the group on Sydney’s north beaches.
That brings the total number of known coronavirus cases in New South Wales to 70.
“While the numbers are higher today than yesterday, the only positive is that we have not yet seen evidence of massive seeding outside of the northern beach community and our goal, of course, is to keep that in place,” said the Premier Gladys Berejiklian to reporters on Sunday. .
The government has imposed a series of restrictions for the Sydney metropolitan area to contain the virus until 11:59 pm until Wednesday.
Family gatherings have been limited to 10 people and clients must maintain a distance of four square meters at the venues.
Attendance at places of worship and hospitality will be limited to 300 people.
Singing and singing indoors is prohibited and dance floors will only be allowed at weddings.
“I thank you all for your patience. I think this is the last thing we all wanted at this time of year, but as we know we are in a pandemic and we all need to make changes,” Berejiklian said.
“We are all in this together and I am confident that we will overcome it as long as we stick together and follow the advice given to us.”
The new case list, released by NSW Health on Saturday night, showed that the virus had spread to greater Sydney and other parts of NSW.
Public health alerts apply to Nomad Restaurant, Cuckoo Callay, and the Strawberry Hills Hotel in downtown Surry Hills, the Rose of Australia pub in Erskineville, and the Sydney Trapeze School in St Peters. The new locations also include Turramurra and Homebush.
The locations in Forster and Raymond Terrace, both hours north of Sydney, are also on the warning list.
The new list also includes locations on the northern beaches, the epicenter of the recent group.
Of particular concern is Anytime Fitness in Avalon, where known cases were seen for several days while they were infectious.
Anyone who attended the gym on or after December 8 is considered a close contact and must isolate themselves for 14 days. People who worked there between November 23 and December 7 should also get tested.
Residents of northern beaches are under stay-at-home orders last imposed in March at the height of the Covid-19 crisis.
The lockout lasts through Wednesday in an effort, Berejiklian said, to give Sydney a chance for a semi-normal Christmas.
People are allowed to leave their homes for five basic reasons: seeking medical care, exercising, shopping, working, or compassionate care reasons.
New Zealand surveillance situation in New South Wales
The New Zealand government says it is closely monitoring the new Covid-19 cluster in Sydney, but it is too early to say whether it will affect a trans-Tasman bubble.
“As previously stated, a travel bubble will not start until the first quarter of 2021,” a government spokesman said in a statement.
“The beginning depends on the fact that there are no significant changes in the circumstances of any of the countries.
“Decisions on whether or not to proceed with a travel bubble will come in the new year and we will assess the situation at that time.
“We are monitoring the situation closely, but it is too early to make decisions based on the current community cases in New South Wales.”
