The man who escaped from the Hamilton Police Station has distinctive facial tattoos, and police are asking for help finding him.

William Merrin, 24, fled employees of the Hamilton Police Station around 3 p.m. Monday, according to a statement.

He is dangerous and must not be approached, and he has ties to Hamilton and Te Awamutu.

He has a distinctive tattoo over his right eye and one on his left cheek, not featured in the police image, described as linked writing.

The upper part of her hair has been dyed blonde.

He is described as 180 cm tall with a slight build.

Police and canine units have been seen scouring the city in search of the missing man.
