Christchurch’s new stadium “has been a long time coming,” says Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
Ardern signed an agreement with the Christchurch City Council on Monday, committing $ 220 million in Crown funding for the city’s new multipurpose stadium.
Ardern said that the day marked the “green light” of the project, which for the Cantabrians was “a long time to come.”

Greater Christchurch Regeneration Minister Woods said the prospect of having 15 concerts a year would be “a kind of nirvana” for the city.
The 25,000-seat indoor arena is projected to cost $ 473 million, with the city council providing the remaining $ 253 million.
Construction could begin next year and the stadium is scheduled to open in 2024.
