Winston Peters appears to smoke in front of a no smoking sign in a video on social media.
NZ First frontman Winston Peters appeared to smoke a cigarette in front of a no smoking sign in video recorded by a member of the public.
The video was posted on Facebook on Monday after the Deputy Prime Minister visited the University of Otago, which has a campus-wide smoke-free policy.
A no smoking sign can be seen behind Peters in the short video, which appears to have been surreptitiously filmed.
Peters is alongside New Zealand’s first MP and Taieri candidate Mark Patterson and Dunedin candidate Robert Griffith in the video.
Their outfits match what they were seen wearing publicly Monday at the University.
Peters publicly said that he had quit smoking in mid-2017 before that year’s election.
He can be seen with what appears to be a cigarette in his mouth and then exhaling smoke shortly after.
Peters is in the middle of a bus tour of the South Island as the 2020 election campaign begins.
A spokeswoman for the University of Otago pointed out its smoke-free policy to the media and said Peters had visited the university for a question and answer session.
