The Labor Party will increase sick leave entitlements from five to ten days a year, if elected.
On Saturday, Labor announced a policy aimed at supporting the Kiwi workers.
In a statement, workplace safety and relationships spokesman Andrew Little said that ensuring that working New Zealanders are safe, healthy and that their contribution to the economy is valued is a critical aspect of the Relationships Policy. labor in the workplace.
The party has vowed to increase sick leave, raise wages, protect employees while on the job, create jobs, and invest in the economy.

“Workers play a key role in getting our economy moving,” Little said. “We cannot grow successful businesses without a strong and prosperous workforce.”
“The management of Covid-19 has shown, more than ever, how important it is for workers to be able to stay home if they are sick. That is why we are expanding sick leave entitlements from five to ten days a year.
“This will mean that people can stay home if they are unwell and it will also provide support and flexibility for working parents,” Little said.
“It is time to leave New Zealand’s low-wage culture behind. That is why Labor will continue to increase the minimum wage, as well as implementing Fair Pay Agreements. “
Labor had previously pledged to raise the minimum wage to $ 20 by 2021.
“A race to the bottom in wages comes at the expense of our most vulnerable workers and undermines our productivity. Investing in our people should be a key part of our economic recovery from Covid-19.
“We want a highly skilled and productive workforce where everyone shares in the benefits of economic growth,” said Andrew Little.
Other key provisions were:
- Recognize security guards as vulnerable workers to ensure their terms and conditions are protected.
- Ensuring that seafarers’ wellness centers provide better services.
- Raise the age for workers to perform hazardous work and ensure that all workers have the right to elect health and safety representatives.
- Strengthen the Labor Relations Law to make it difficult to undermine collective bargaining agreements.
