The Government said that the 2020 Budget was about jobs, and that it was.

On Thursday, he unveiled his plight of $ 50 billion to fight the Coronavirus accident with a massive injection of funds for jobs, training and infrastructure. But so far only $ 15.9b has been allocated from that fund.

The government is also helping people get back to work through a $ 1.6b commerce and learning package.

WAGE SUBSIDY

WORKS AND TRAINING

The government is also helping people get back to work through a $ 1.6b commerce and learning package.

This retraining package aims to open opportunities for those who lost jobs during the Covid-19 crisis, or who need to improve their skills for a new career.

POOL VISION

Massive boost to established training schemes to create new job opportunities.

The Government is also giving the Ministry of Social Development a boost of $ 400 million.

Targeted vocational training courses will be free for all ages, not just for those who drop out of school. This will help people who have lost their jobs to train and also allow new employees in some essential services to be trained on the job.

A $ 1.1b cash increase will help create 11,000 “green” jobs. The package includes regional environmental projects, biosecurity and pest control roles, and DOC’s “work for nature” fund.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The infrastructure will receive a boost of $ 3b. The government also promises to double its state housing construction efforts, with 8,000 new homes.

The $ 5 billion home construction effort is expected to spread over the next five years.

The Government has set aside $ 1.2 billion for the New Zealand rail system, including money to help replace the Cook Strait ferries.

TOURISM

A $ 400 million rescue package will help boost the tourism sector. The package was just the beginning and additional support will be rolled out in the coming months.

But those in the industry say that despite funding, major layoffs remain inevitable.

WELLNESS

The Government agrees to spend approximately $ 1 billion on needy New Zealanders.

Kiwi children will be among those who benefit from the cash injection. The Government will allocate $ 220 million in the free school lunch program, feed an additional 200,000 children, and create approximately 2,000 jobs.

The school lunch program, launched in 2019, currently feeds 8,000 children.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the coronavirus crisis has greatly affected families, creating an urgent need for support, such as making sure children have a full stomach at school.

The money will also go to providers of social services, community groups, family violence services, rural mental health and support services for the disabled.

POOL VISION

Heavy infrastructure spending to build 8,000 new houses.

HEALTH

The District Health Boards will receive $ 3.92b in funds over the next four years.

The government made this pre-DHB budget announcement on Tuesday.

EDUCATION

The education sector was allocated $ 813.6 million in the Government’s 2020 Budget.

The Government has also set aside $ 375.1 million for grants for Early Childhood Education (ECE) centers, trade academies, and tertiary education. The money would also go toward grants for school operations.

“This will allow education providers to maintain existing quality levels in the face of rising costs,” says the Budget document.
