There are 11 new cases of Covid-19 in controlled isolation in New Zealand since the last update from the Ministry of Health on December 29.

The new cases come from all over the world: Canada, the United States, South Africa, the Netherlands, India and the United Kingdom. The origins of a traveler are unknown.
Meanwhile, starting at midnight tonight, people returning to New Zealand from higher-risk countries, including the UK and the US, will need to undergo an additional Covid-19 test on day zero or the first day back to New Zealand.
New border protection measures have been driven by the emergence of newer and more contagious virus variants around the world and high rates of the disease in some countries.

One is historical. This person arrived on December 24 from Canada via the United States. The person tested positive for routine tests around the third day and remains in quarantine at a facility in Christchurch.

Three boxes, traveling separately, arrived on December 27 from the UK via the United Arab Emirates and Malaysia. One person was examined upon arrival for symptoms. Two cases tested positive in routine tests around the third day. They all stay in the Auckland quarantine facility.
One case arrived on December 27 from India via the United Arab Emirates and Malaysia. This person was examined on the second day and is in the Auckland quarantine facility.
