Professor Baker helped shape the country’s abolitionist strategy. He said that despite initial fears of serious lockdowns hurting the economy unnecessarily, New Zealand’s approach proved that the best economic response was a strong public health response, including testing, contact tracing and quarantining.
In the rest of the Western world, Professor Baker added, “Satisfactory exceptions have been adopted – that they will not get the virus, or be as serious as they thought, and the epidemic has proved them wrong.” ”
At 11:59 pm on Wednesday, the rules were relaxed in the Land Total Land, where the gathering was limited to 100 people and masks were made mandatory on public transport. People no longer need to wear masks in public, but should continue to sign and keep records of places they visit, maintain good hygiene practices and, if not healthy, stay home and be tested for the virus. The national border is closed to almost all travelers except New Zealand citizens and permanent residents.
While residents said they were relieved, they did not expect an immediate return to normal life.
“People have lived in their suburbs and supported their local restaurants, so in the past where I was in a really good place, not so much now,” said Yael Shocht, who runs a restaurant Ima Cuisine in Land Cland, UK. Two decades.
“But the most important thing is that we’ve gotten rid of the virus again, and that gives people the confidence to come out,” Ms. Said Shochet. “I hope that as soon as Christmas comes people will really want to go out and party – it’s been a terrible year.”
Others said they were frustrated by the seemingly stringent restrictions preventing them from applying for visas or doing things deemed unnecessary by the government. And some who acknowledged that action was needed said they felt it was not enough to help them.
