New York’s 29 micro-cluster zones bring statewide positivity closer to 4% – NBC New York


New York’s statewide positivity rate for coronavirus has reached a new high for the fall season, with the state’s 29 different micro-cluster zones rising – the highest zone was just 10 percent shy of the 7-day average.

The state’s positivity rate has risen steadily in recent weeks, from 8.88 per cent on Monday to 9.9 per cent on Saturday, Govt. Rew Andrew Cuomo said. While the most recent day reflects the highest positivity rate seen in the month, the 7-day average sits slightly below s.326 percent.

West New York continues to outperform other regions, reaching an average of .5..53 percent positivity by Saturday. State data show the region has a 2 percent higher rate of finger lakes than any other higher region.

Eric County, which sits in the area and where Buffalo is located, reported the most new cases Saturday outside New York City. The county, at present, has both orange and yellow micro-cluster zones.

“We are entering a challenging period of Covid-19 spread across the state,” Kuomo said in a press release on Saturday. “It’s up to you, your neighborhood and your community to slow down the spread.”

Additional testing for students begins Monday in Rockland County’s Yellow Zone. Once the yellow zone designation is announced, the school district is in the zone until December 9 for the examination of 20 per cent students and staff as per the requirement of the state.

Minors must bring a parental consent form to be tested at new sites. The test will be given by the staff of a good Samaritan hospital.

Testing for members of school communities in the zone runs Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Monday: Palisades Center Mall garage entrance. This is a drive-up site or walk-up for those coming by bus.
  • Tuesday: Safran High School on 49 Viola Road in Safarn
  • Wednesday: 361 E. in Spring Valley. Spring Valley High School located on Route 59
  • Thursday: Rockland BOCES, Bldg. Located at 65 Port Road in 10 West Nayak.
  • Friday: Palisades Center Mall garage entrance. This is a drive-up site or walk-up for those coming by bus.

The state conducted 219,442 tests on Thursday – two days after the record test in Saturday’s report. By 184, the number of New Yorkers hospitalized for coronavirus was 3,287 compared to the previous day.
