After months and months of conflicting reports, foreign rumors, and blatantly false leaks, the air is finally starting to disappear around Google’s upcoming 5G-enabled Google
As revealed by the search giant itself, a “flagship” Pixel 5 model is on schedule this fall alongside a mid-range Pixel 4a 5G variant, and it follows closely the most compelling visual leak of the previous device, an equally reliable source today shares a wealth of reliable information on both phones.
While Android Central can not confirm every key specification and feature of the Pixel 5 and 4a 5G, the information that the publication could have received from “people familiar with the upcoming phones from Google” is enough to give a general and relatively promising picture to paint of their ambitions.
The Pixel 5 will have a 6-inch display and “significantly larger” battery than the Pixel 4
We know, we know, you’ve heard so many numbers associated with the possible screen size of the 5G capable Pixel 5 that you’re having trouble putting your faith in another one. Mar that 6.67-inch 120Hz rumor always felt … ridiculous, while 5.7 or 5.8 inches were too close to the 4G LTE-only Pixel 4a mid-ranger.
In 6-inch Pixel 5 would in turn print significantly more screen irreplaceably than the 5.7-inch Pixel 4 and 5.81-inch Pixel 4a in a very similar body, which sounds pretty much like the best of both worlds. In fact, Android Central claims that the Pixel 5 “is about the same exact footprint as the 4a”, which means that its edges are probably even thinner than what OnLeaks made yesterday.
The most interesting thing about the Pixel 5 is perhaps its “significantly larger” battery than the 2,800mAh pack Pixel 4. Although we do not have an exact number to share with you today, the recent 3,080mAh rumor is considered “completely false”, which makes us almost excited about this bad guy.
Unfortunately, the age-old Snapdragon 765 speculation is almost certain, which means Google is likely to release a full-fledged high-end smartphone this year. For what it’s worth, the Pixel 5 is tipped to pair this mid-range top processor with a generous 8 gigs of RAM, while offering no less than 128 gigs of internal storage space. That comes from a memory count of 6 GB and 64 GB of local digital storage on the Pixel 4 configuration of $ 800, so if Priced at $ 700, the Pixel 5 is starting to sound like a solid alternative to the OnePlus 8, LG Velvet, as Motorola Edge.
The Pixel 5 is also expected to feature a conventional post-installation fingerprint scanner instead of a “modern” option for on-screen biometric recognition, such as 15W wireless charging and 5W reverse wireless charging capabilities, and last but not least, a largely mysterious dual camera system with an ultra-wide angle secondary sensor instead of a telephoto lens.
The Pixel 4a 5G will be bigger and cheaper
If you are in love with both stock Android and huge screens, we have some bad news for you. It does not look like Google will release an XL version of its Pixel 5 “flagship”, although if you feel better, the Pixel 4a 5G may be slightly smaller than last year’s Pixel 4 XL, reported 6.2 inches in display diagonally.
5.8-inch Pixel 4a with 4G LTE support only
Unfortunately, there is not much else we know about this budget-friendly 5G handset, but at $ 499 we can expect quite a few serious downgrades compared to the Pixel 5. And since the two devices are pretty much guaranteed to have the same Snapdragon 765 To share SoC, we think downgrades are focused on build quality, camera performance, display capabilities and memory departments.
In other words, the Pixel 4a 5G will likely count for 60Hz screen refresh technology, as well as the same single-rear-facing shooter as its 4G LTE-limited brother, all-plastic construction, and 6GB of RAM.
Google is widely expected that the wraps will take the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G well on September 30th prior to an early October 8th advance, although if the troubled history of the “standard” Pixel 4a is any indication, those dates may not yet be etched in stone.
