New Orleans announces renaming of ‘Dicky Beer’

The Dickey Brewing Company is asking people to help them choose a new brand name to reflect a more inclusive and unified future.

According to Fox 8, on Monday, New Reliance-based Sharabri announced it would seek a public response by September 25 for original suggestions for improving the business and its products.

The rebranding of Dicky Brewing and all Dixie-branded products was first announced in the group by brewery owner Gail Benson, who is also the NFL’s New Orleans Saints and the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans.

According to Fox 8, the brewery explained in a statement Monday that “the company was forced to make changes following the nation’s conversations on issues of systemic racism and social justice in the black and brown communities.”

“As the country develops, Dixie felt the need to reflect on the role of alcohol in making New Orleans more united, stronger and resilient for future generations. The options for an iconic brewery in a city rich in culture, diverse backgrounds and unique dialects are endless.

Going forward, Big Easy Brewery plans to unveil its new name next month, with a big brand rollout for Mardi Gras in 2021.
