New Lincoln project ads are Ohio voters after Trump calls for Goodyear boycott

A new video released by the Lincoln Project targets Ohio voters as they criticize President Donald Trump’s recent call to boycott Goodyear Tires.

“Ohio knows it’s a good year to vote for Donald Trump,” the Lincoln Project wrote as the title of its new video. The video appeals to Ohio voters because it is home to Goodyear Tires, an Ohio company that President Trump recently criticized.

As the video begins, the narrator discusses the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic, saying “172,000 killed by COVID.”

“Millions of unemployed are advancing, losing, and losing health coverage,” the narrator says as the video shows a screen that reads, “another 35,000 unemployment files in Ohio.”

The narrator then goes on to talk about how the pandemic is affecting Ohio residents, citing Trump’s recent tweet to tell Americans not to buy Goodyear tires.

“Times in Ohio are getting tougher. Donald Trump is making it worse; demanding a boycott to get Goodyear out of the case,” the narrator said. “Those are 3,300 unions. Jobs that support families throughout Ohio. Why? His feelings are hurtful.”

On Wednesday, Trump tweeted “Don’t buy GOODYEAR TIRES – They announced a BAN ON MAGA HATS. Get better tires for much less! (This is what the Democrats of the Radical Left are doing. Two can play the same game, and we need to start playing it now! “

Trump on Wednesday called for a boycott of Goodyear tire brands, saying the company’s policy restricting political speech in the workplace prohibits employees from wearing his campaign hats.

His tweet came shortly after the company was severely backed by Trump and other Republicans following a report from a local news store showing a Goodyear plant in Topeka, Kansas, and providing a list of “unacceptable” clothing and apparel as the dress code of the company. Some of the unacceptable items included clothing with messages such as “Blue Lives Matter,” “All Lives Matter” and “MAGA” – referring to Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”

The report also showed clothing with “Black Lives Matter” as acceptable under the company’s dress code.

In response to criticism and backlash from Trump and others, Goodyear’s chairman, CEO and president Goodyear posted a statement on Twitter, saying he wanted to “delete the report from the Topeka factory” on record.

“I deeply regret the impression it has made and want to make Goodyear’s position clear,” Kramer wrote. “First, to be clear, Goodyear does not support any political organization, party or candidate.”

“Second, Goodyear strongly supports our legislative partners and deeply appreciates everything they do to put their lives on the line for our communities every day,” the statement continued. “We have proudly provided tires for police and firefighters for over 100 years and that relationship is fundamental to our business.”

In an email, Erin Perrine, director of press communications for Trump’s campaign, dismissed the PAC’s latest announcement.

“This is the swamp – once again – trying to take down the duly elected president of the United States. President Trump is the leader of a united Republican Party, where he won 94% of the Republican vote during the primary – what every former president of every party could only dream of, ” the statement read.

The Lincoln Project was formed in late 2019 by a group of current and former Republicans. According to the PAC’s website, the goal is to “defeat Donald Trump and Trumpism.”
