The latest series to stand out from Netflix’s well-stocked vault is a dark fantasy based on a 300 graphic novel and Sin City comic book legend Frank Miller.

Cursed follows Nimue, also known as the Lady of the Lake (played by Katherine Langford from 13 Reasons Why), as she finds herself embroiled in a war between magic and the church. Somewhere along the way, she takes the “cursed” Excalibur.

The second trailer, expanding into the first teaser, shows that Nimue is tasked with bringing the sword to Merlin, but she also seems to have a time when she claims the sword for herself.

We have some glimpses of Nimue using his magic, as well as some of the destruction caused by the Red Paladins. Arthur is also there, played by Devon Terrell.

The series, which reinvents Arthurian legends, will launch on Netflix on July 17. So far, trailers have produced promising imagery and dark magic combined with Witcher’s medieval grit, so let’s hope Cursed delivers.
