ALEXANDRIA, Va. – An Old Town Alexandria business owner is receiving community support after she says a client turned violent after being asked to cover her face.

Most people in our region have been following the recommendations of health officials and have covered their faces, but when there are people who are unwilling to comply within an establishment, it can create a difficult and even terrifying situation for business owners and staff.
The incident occurred earlier this month at Abyssinia Market and Coffee House. Owner Lily Damtew said she was ready to definitively close the business after the incident until she returned one morning to find words of encouragement from her neighbors posted on her door.
Authorities say the man was detained.
