The NBA was one of the leagues to take on social justice issues when it reopened in the Disney World bubble in July after a month-long hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In the wake of the police-involved deaths of Black Americans and the ensuing unrest, the NBA announced that they would “Black Lives Matter” on the courts in Orlando, Fla., And players a league-approved can carry message of social justice on the back of their jerseys during the seed games.

ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski said Wednesday on his podcast that not all NBA owners were on board to put Black Lives Matter on the court. Commissioner Adam Silver told the owners after all that the expression of support went to the courts, no matter how much they complained.
“Not every owner in the NBA was enthusiastic about ‘Black Lives Matter’ on the court,” Wojnarowski said.

‘I know they were not all. Some are extremely supportive. Some less. None of them publicly so (to criticize). But I know Adam Silver said to them, ‘Hey guys, this is what we’re going to do to support our players. Our league consists overwhelmingly of African-American players. This is important. This is a partnership. We need to work together to continue this season and into next year. ‘
“I’m going to be curious about how the relationship and partnership is progressing. So far, what has allowed this thing to work, especially the Players Association and the league, more than any other (sports leagues), they really have “I can come together about things. I wonder if there will be some division under ownership when this season unfolds.”
