NBA 2K21 is officially well behind schedule with its release of info

Over the years, 2K has been known to flood August with information about the upcoming version of NBA 2K in what feels like a last minute rush. It’s hard to argue with their results from a sales standpoint, because the game has sold 10 million units each of the last few years.

Even with that track record, the information release, if any, is noticeable. The year has been a strange one in almost every way, so delays are understandable. The coronavirus has destroyed the world and for a while, 2K developers were influenced in a significant way to work from home.

According to a recent Ask Me Anything with gameplay producer Mike Wang, the 2K devs have been working for weeks with all the necessary tools for preparation for NBA 2K21.

However, it turns out that something is causing a delay. If COVID-19 has everything behind it, then disclosing this information would not be a bad idea, and it is unlikely to give a picture of vulnerability.

It’s not hard to see fans getting info too late about a 2K game hoping to pay in advance in the coming weeks, if they haven’t already.

In 2019, we saw screenshots on July 15th. We still have not seen any real screenshots produced for the current generation version other than the one released earlier this week by the Portland Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard.

The discovery of the soundtrack for NBA 2K21 happened on July 27th. Last year, the same information was available on July 20 for NBA 2K20.

The MyGM / MyLeague blog is usually a staple for the early part of the 2K info drop. In 2019, it was released on July 29th. We have not seen that before for NBA 2K21.

The current gen gameplay trailer for NBA 2K21 was released on August 6, which is a full week later when it arrives for NBA 2K20.

Most of the time, a gameplay blog follows the release of the trailer, and that would make sense if a few things were teared up in the short preview. That still bothers you when it comes to a MyGM / MyLeague blog, which in turn worries about how much has been done to improve the franchise mode in 2K.

Over the last five years, 2K has continued to innovate and renew the spectrum of its ever-expanding product. At that time, however, there were so many areas related to communication that seemed to fall through the cracks.

Hopefully this delay is just the latest breakroom strategy, but at some point it’s starting to feel like we’re a little too secretive and not keeping a dedicated fanbase informed about the next product that people are no doubt willing to sink a lot of time into. and this year money in again.
