Actor Ryan Dorsey shared an emotional tribute on Saturday in honor of his ex-wife, Naya Rivera. The late “Glee” star the body was recovered from Piru Lake in California on July 13 after he disappeared several days earlier during a boat trip with his son.
“This is so unfair … there are not enough words to express the emptiness left in everyone’s hearts,” Dorsey wrote in an Instagram post. “I can’t believe this is life right now. I don’t know if I’ll ever believe it.”
The post included a picture of the 33-year-old actress, who played Santana Lopez in “Glee,” holding the former couple’s 4-year-old son, Josey Hollis Dorsey.
“You were here … We were in the back swimming with Josey the day before,” Dorsey continued in the post. “Life just isn’t fair. I don’t know what to say … I am grateful for our time and our journey that brought us together and gave us the sweetest and kindest child we could hope for.”
Dorsey added that Rivera “sometimes” would get mad at him using Snapchat, but was glad “he hadn’t heard her” when she asked him to stop.
“I have hundreds and probably thousands of photos and videos that Josey will have forever and I know his mother loved him more than life, and how much fun we had together as he grew up,” he said. “Life is about good and bad times, but with Josey he makes the bad times a little less, because a part of you will always be with us. He will never forget where he came from. We miss you. We will always love you.”
He concluded by thanking everyone who approached him and for all the support during the testing time. He also reminded his followers to treasure every day they have with their loved ones.
“Time on Earth is precious and you never know … you never know what might happen,” added Dorsey. “Keep your loved ones close and value the moments you spend with the people you care about.”
Dorsey and Rivera got married in Jul 2014. They finalized their divorce in June 2018, according to Entertainment Tonight.
Rivera took her son to Piru Lake on a rented pontoon earlier this month, but when they didn’t return from lake As expected three hours later, workers at the rental company came out to look for them, authorities said. Josey was found in the boat, with his life jacket. He informed the authorities that he and his mother had gone swimming in the lake, and said that he returned to the boat, but that she did not.
Rivera’s search lasted six days before finding his body. Her cause of death was listed as accidental drowning by the Ventura County medical examiner. There were no signs of trauma or signs that drugs or alcohol had played a role in his death, the coroner added.
