Move, Max Scherzer … the Nats now trust Dr. Anthony Fauci to launch a fastball on opening day – the team says it has tapped the COVID-19 expert to launch the first ceremonial launch on Thursday!
It’s a great honor for Fauci … the guy is a self-proclaimed superfan of the Nationals, and WA team officials say they couldn’t be happier that he accepted their invitation to start their season this week.
“Dr. Fauci has been a true champion for our country during the COVID-19 pandemic and during his distinguished career,” said the Nats.
“Therefore, it is appropriate that we honor him as we begin the 2020 season and defend our World Series Championship title.”
Fauci will face off just a few minutes before the Nats host the New York Yankees in DC National Park.
It’s unclear what Fauci’s arm looks like from 60 feet, 6 inches … but we’re not expecting any. 50 cents kind antics during the pregame ceremony.
Remember … Fauci, 79, was a great athlete at the time, running the Regis HS point in New York in 1958.
