Nationals exploring alternative sites to open the season

Reigning World Series champions Nationals are slated to begin their home title defense against the Yankees next Thursday, but the teams’ series may participate outside of Washington, DC. of the season, Jesse Dougherty and Dave Sheinin from the Washington Post report.

According to Washington health protocols, any player, coach, or staff member who tests positive for COVID-19 would have to be quarantined for two weeks. DC is unwilling to make an exception to the quarantine policy for the Nationals, so the club has begun looking for contingency plans. According to Dougherty, the Nats’ Single-A Stadium in Fredericksburg, Virginia, as well as its spring training facility in West Palm Beach, Florida, are possibilities. Dougherty suggests that Virginia would be the most likely place.

The coronavirus has had a major impact on nationals in recent weeks. Even before this news came out, the club had trouble receiving the COVID test results in a timely manner, and three of its players: Ryan Zimmerman, Joe Ross and Welington Castle – He was excluded from the season due to health problems. The problems the Nationals have faced further illustrate how difficult it will be for MLB to make a season, even a 60-game version.
