It’s a little difficult to explain how important the annual Nathan Hot Dog Feeding Contest is to this country on the Fourth of July. Or rather, it is difficult to explain how important the organizers of one of the world’s most famous food competitions believe to American traditions.
The Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating 2020 contest will be held for the first time in a covered stadium without any fans to witness the live event that generally takes place in Coney Island, New York. The two main stars to watch out for are Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo.
Sudo was the first of the two stars to compete in the contest, and she certainly reminded everyone of why she’s the dominant champion of Nathan’s hot dog food contest. Her official total was 48.5 hot dogs and buns, which not only broke her own personal record, but set a new world record in the women’s division of this competition. This also means that she has seven titles in the hot dog eating contest, placing her second all-time place only for Joey Chestnut and making Takeru Kobayashi pass on the all-time list.
Chestnut, one of the most dominant people in competitive eating, is looking for his thirteenth mustard yellow belt. She will face five other challengers in an attempt to also complete four mobs in the competition. She will also chase her world record for 74 hot dogs and buns that she set when the competition was in Brooklyn two years ago.
