Penny Dreadful’s Natalie Dormer’s spin-off series is axed by Showtime.
According to reports, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels was canceled by the showtime network after just one season.
City of Angels was a ‘spiritual successor’ to the original and moved the action in 1938 to Los Angeles.
City of Angels, culminating in the conflict between characters associated with the deity Santa Muerte and others, associated with the devil, featured all new characters and storylines.
Margaery Tyrell actress Natalie played Magda-shifting form, a demon that could take the shape and form of anyone she chooses.
“Showtime has decided not to go ahead with another season of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels,” said a network spokesman.
“We want to thank executive producers John Logan, Michael Aguilar and the entire cast and crew for their outstanding work on this project,” she added to The Hollywood Reporter.
The original Penny Dreadful ran three seasons, from 2014 to 2016, and was the brainchild of Oscar-nominated screenwriter John Logan.
The spin-off is one of many shows canceled by Showtime.
Other shows that would be axed recently were Jim Carrey’s Kidding and Ray Donovan, the latter after seven seasons.
Showtime also recently canceled Homeland and Shameless.
