Nashville ICU nurse and ‘health care hero’ shot and killed on their way to work


A “courageous healthcare hero” was shot dead while on his way to work as a nurse at a Tennessee hospital’s intensive care unit.

Caitlin Mary Kaufman, 26, was shot in her SUV while driving on Interstate 440 around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nashville police said.

“The vehicle came to rest on the right shoulder of the road in front of the guard rail between Hillsborough Pike and West End Avenue exit,” police said Friday. “A Metro Parks officer stopped to investigate at 8:52 p.m., and found out that Kaufman had been shot, and asked Midtown Hills Presbyterian officers to help.”

He died on the spot, police said.

They released a photo of his Mazda CX-5 SUV taken at the scene.

Tan., Kaufeman, Lebanon, was driving at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. She was scheduled to start her shift at 7 p.m.

“We are devastated to learn of the tragic and sudden passing of our ICU nurse Caitlin Kaufman,” a hospital representative told WKRN-TV.

The spokesperson said that she was a dedicated and very dear member of our … team and a courageous health care hero who was kindly called upon to serve patients with compassion and kindness.

DAU.KRN. The swimmer was an influential member of her high school swimming team and graduated from Clarion University in Pennsylvania, the report said.

Police have not determined the motive for the shooting or made any arrests.
