Multiple people were hospitalized after an SUV riot in the heart of Hollywood

Five people were injured after the driver of an SUV fled the market on Hollywood Boulevard on Friday.

Los Angeles police believe the suspect fell asleep on a cycle as a result of intoxication, according to a tweet from the Los Angeles Police Department. The man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

According to KTLA reports, the driver allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road before he encountered an obstacle and crashed into a Hollywood Market liquor store.

When the condition of three of the victims was found to be serious, LAPD chief Michael Moore tweeted late in the evening that all the victims were in stable condition.

Among the injured pedestrians were two Washington tourists, one with a broken rib and one with a broken leg. The other was described as having “moderate injuries”, according to Moore, suffering from lasers and friction.

According to KTLA, the other two victims were identified as Fox 11 reporter Hale Eisner and his photographer, who were in the field at the time to record the news of the reopening of the El Capitan Theater.

“It could be any of us,” Hollywood Ambassador Greg Donovan told local news outlets. “You never know here on the Hollywood Live Boulevard. I mean, out of the blue, the same way. I can’t believe it, I was shocked.”

According to a statement released by the Los Angeles Fire Department, the structural integrity of the building, located on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, was not damaged.
