Believe it or not, summer is almost over. And unfortunately we are all trapped at home for the foreseeable future. This means that we need to find our entertainment where we can, and that’s where streaming services come in. HBO Max, like all other services, introduces new titles every month, and in August they have a lot of things worth seeing. In addition to highly anticipated originals like Lovecraft Country and An American pickleThere are also many studio movies. Here are the best TV shows and movies coming to HBO Max in August 2020.
Birds of prey
Birds of prey it’s fun! Sure, it has some script problems. But it’s also a brightly colored and strangely violent action comedy about Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) separating from the Joker and becoming his own independent woman. Also, people cut their faces. This was not the great success that Warner Bros. had been waiting for, but I think as more and more people discover it through the broadcast (or home video), Birds of prey You will get the respect you deserve.
The way back
Ben Affleck gives perhaps the best performance of his career in The way back. The plot, which features Affleck as an alcoholic who is recruited to train his old high school basketball team, is not exactly new. But Affleck’s performance, which is clearly deeply personal, has battled alcoholism in the past, helps elevate what’s happening here into something far more memorable than might be expected. You can call this a “daddy movie” if you want, but it’s a damn solid daddy movie.
Jojo Rabbit
Jojo Rabbit It was an Oscar-winning photo, but it also has many detractors who just didn’t care. Taika waititi“anti-hate” satire. However, it seemed like a wonderful movie. The concept, a young man in Nazi Germany having an imaginary friend who happens to be Hitler, could have been counterproductive. And I guess for some people, it did. But I firmly believe that Waititi set the right tone for what he was trying to do here. You can argue that the film is not an accurate representation of the events of World War II, but I’m sure that was not what Waititi was looking for anyway.
The fugitive
The fugitive it is a perfect example of a well done Hollywood thriller. Harrison Ford is a man on the run, charged with a crime he did not commit. Tommy Lee Jones is the United States’ Marshall on his way. It’s simple, and yet all facets of this movie go off at full blast, creating an exciting and fascinating movie that probably couldn’t be done today.
Contact
Robert Zemeckis Following Forrest Gump up with the very top Contact, a great emotional science fiction epic on faith and science. Jodie foster plays Dr. Ellie Arroway, who has spent her entire life trying to find life on other planets. And sure enough, she finds it, unleashing a whirlwind of political, spiritual, and scientific scenarios that seem incredibly bold for what was dubbed a blockbuster.
