Motorola Razr (2020) 5G Crazy Leak Reveals Design For The First Time

Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Flip 5G to the world last week, but it could very soon face fierce competition. Freshly filtered images courtesy of Evan Blass has revealed what its next competitor, the Motorola Razr (2020) 5G, will be like for the first time.

A sleeker design with a smaller chin.

Called ‘Motorola Odyssey’ and configured to be marketed as the Motorola Razr (2020) when released later this year, the leaked foldable smartphone builds on the nostalgia that made the 2019 version so unique by adopting a similar form factor.

However, to better compete with Samsung and any other company that is considering entering the segment, Motorola has made some subtle but very important design changes that create a much more elegant feel.

The internal display, for example, now appears to be much larger despite once again measuring it at 6.2 inches. Thinner bezels can be appreciated for that. Motorola has extended the panel towards the top of the phone while choosing to retain the single notch.
Efforts have also been made to reduce the massive chin below the screen. It’s still pretty remarkable as it should possibly be on a Razr device, but this time Motorola has removed the capacitive fingerprint scanner from the area.

Presumably, the scanner has been replaced by an onscreen alternative or one that is embedded within the side power button. It is true that the latter seems a bit small for that, but it cannot be seen in detail, so nothing can be said for sure at this stage.

The external display is also no bigger

The 2019 Motorola Razr already had a fairly large external display and Motorola is fully aware. It looks like it hasn’t made any size changes, but the accompanying camera settings have been slightly updated.

Presumably, the main camera is the sensor inside the visible bump. It’s said to be a 48-megapixel shooter and reportedly accompanies a second 20-megapixel shooter, which appears to be out of the way.

On the software side, Motorola plans to pre-install Android 10. That’s not surprising because Android 11 isn’t available yet, but it also means that no new features are guaranteed for the sub-panel.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 765, 256GB of storage and more

Premium smartphones generally run on the latest Snapdragon 800 series chipsets. But folding devices are expensive to manufacture and Motorola wants to keep the price low while offering 5G connectivity, hence its decision to use the Snapdragon 765 inside the Razr. (2020).

Accompanying the chipset are 256GB of internal storage as standard, compared to 128GB inside the original foldable and reportedly at least 8GB of RAM, which would be an increase over the 6GB used on last year.

Motorola is believed to have also worked on battery life by incorporating a larger capacity battery (2,845 mAh) inside the device. Battery life was not a strong point in the original, so that change will be welcome.

Motorola Razr (2020) 5G announcement and availability

The new Motorola Razr 5G is expected to make its international debut in September before launching in the fourth quarter. In the United States, it could again be a Verizon exclusive, though that has yet to be confirmed.

Price-wise, the original model sold for $ 1,499, but Motorola could choose to undermine the $ 1,449 Galaxy Z Flip 5G with the 2020 model.
