Minutes later: Tennessee Tech – inside the hall

Thoughts on the 89-59 win over the Golden Eagles:

Empty assembly hall. Kovid-1 beats India’s opponent’s head coach and top returning scorer and worries that the game could be jeopardized.

Welcome to the 2020-2021 college basketball season, where it always shapes to be fantastic and we have just started.

It was an opioid start with hosiery. Tracy Jackson-Davis scored just one of her first six shots. But the Indiana’s 28-2 run to close the first half reduced the Hoosiers ’half to 48-19, which kept the thing away for good.

Looking for signs of improved Indiana shooting tonight? You will need to keep searching. There was none of this. The Hoosiers (10-of-22, 45.5 percent) were upset with the line and 3-point shooting was also a mess (5-of-19, 26.3 percent). Outside of the seemingly simple Rob Fincy (2-F-3), and Jerome Hunter (1-of-2), Indiana really struggled to connect with deep depth. Al Durham hit just one of his five attempts. Freshman Christian Lander stuck to his first three before banking late to finish 1-of-4 from a distance.

It’s early, but a game, and so to draw any real conclusions about Indiana shooting, the sample size is too small. But after three seasons of having his obvious weakness under Archie Miller, no one will be able to help but consider tonight’s performance.

Despite the shooting issues, the new wrinkles in Indiana’s crime looked pretty cool. The team has more passers-by and playmakers and finishers and the transition game tonight was a real bright spot. Freshman Trey Galloway made a terrific entry, showing a great bet to get past the pack and finish on the rim in many ways. It’s long and smooth and uninterrupted … and some people already compare his game to that of Will Shihini.

“In that transition, without question, we have one of the best players.” Miller said of Galloway after the contest.

The production of Culver Academies had 13 points on a 6-of-9 shooting tonight, which outscored all the Hussites not named Jackson-Davis in his debut. As for Jackson-Davis, he quickly kicked off his slow start with an impressive performance. Once gone the Golden Eagles had no answer for Sofmore. He finished with 26 points (one of the highs of his career) and 11 rebounds, the second double in his entire career. Jackson-Davis also made deep jumps from the pick-and-pop, which made the shot look better than his. તે Look at the Big Ten if it is able to hit it consistently and continue to dominate the paint.

On defense, Indiana switched more to the screens, something that wasn’t really the case last season, and kept Tennessee Tech at just .80 points per possession. The Hoosiers were also great with the ball tonight, as they turned it into just 11 percent of the wealth.

Without any performances or secret scrimmage and the strange nature of this se fis ason, you will get this kind of performance from tonight’s hosiery. The game is the only true tune-up for the very IU, even before it faces legitimate competition. The Hallaciers will play high-quality opponents at the Maui Invitational next week to face 21st Florida State in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge.

Then we will learn more about this team (and its shooting).
