Boynton also tweeted that he reviewed the investigation along with several athletes who expressed concern.
Holder said he turned to Boynton for a different perspective, one that Holder respects.
“His experiences as a person are different from mine,” Holder said. “As I said before, I am a 71-year-old white man. I don’t have I don’t understand what it’s like to be black or African American in America today. None. I have empathy for African Americans, especially those who are my athletes.
“And so it is important for me to find someone who can give me a better perspective on it. You know that each of us has prejudices, implicit prejudices. There is nothing we can do about it. It is just a product of how we were raised. So every day you have to remind yourself to try to be objective and only judge people according to what you see in front of you, not by the color of their skin, but by the person in front of you. It is not the fact that it is a woman or a man. Everyone deserves a fair chance in this world today.
“I am interested in Mike Boynton’s perspective as an African American, and in someone I respect for who he is, what he represents and what he represents every day. We need more people like him. “
