Mid-American conference highlights outages from time to time for sports, including football, over concerns about coronavirus

The Mid-American Conference has become the first conference of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) to postpone college football and the rest of the fall sports record due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Conference of Presidents’ Council voted unanimously to postpone the fall sports season. The conference has plans to play the fall sports season in the spring. The winter sports season has so far not been affected.

“The decision is fundamental to the core values of the conference, which prioritize the well-being of student-athletes, an area in which the MAC has long played a leadership role,” said Commissioner Dr Jon Steinbrecher in a news release. ‘It’s clear we’re mapping a conservative path – and it’s one that has been recommended by our medical advisory group. It is a decision that will affect about 2,500 student-athletes currently living to compete. Those opportunities and moments are joyful, and our student-athletes have a limited window in which to showcase their talent, passion, and drive for excellence. I’m passionate that we’re in this place. However, I comfort and want to give the guarantee to our student-athletes, coaches, and fans that we have their best interests at heart, and we will do our utmost to provide competitive opportunities in the spring. “

Conference officials and the media advisory panel will convene to determine the safest course of action.

“This decision is in the best interests of all Mid-American Conference student-athletes, athletics departments and university communities,” said Drs. Satish K. Tripath, the Conference of Presidents Chair and University at Buffalo president, in the news release. “The Council of Presidents has always maintained that the health, safety and well-being of everyone within our conference, especially our student-athletes, is our top priority.”
