Microsoft’s chairman met with the United States Antimonopoly Committee investigating Apple and raised concerns about the app store

Apple CEO Tim Cook, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Alphabet / Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg are set to participate in an antitrust hearing next Monday held by the Subcommittee Antitrust of the Judiciary of the United States Chamber as part of an ongoing antitrust investigation into competition in digital markets.

Before the hearing, the committee spoke with Microsoft President and Chief Legal Officer Brad Smith with Information share details about the virtual meeting.

The committee wanted to speak to Smith so he could “provide Microsoft’s perspective as a great technology company” previously involved in antitrust regulation on Windows, but Smith also shared Microsoft’s concerns with how Apple operates the App Store.

Topics covered included Apple’s arbitrary approval processes for the ‘App Store,’ the 30 percent cut Apple takes from app purchases and subscriptions, and requirements that developers use the in-app purchase system in Apple.
