The best meteorologists of the year brought amazing fireballs and bright dust tracks that lit up the night sky this week. Millions of people around the world marvel at them Perseide meteor shower peak Tuesday and Wednesday – a spectacular conclusion to a summer full of cosmic phenomena that included a comes once in a lifetime.
The annual meteor shower is popular for bringing up to 100 meteors per hour, bright tails of color and explosive fireballs. The beautiful meteors are remnants of the comet Swift-Tuttle, which last passed through the inner solar system in 1992.
