Meghan Markle told to drop royal title if she wants to participate in politics | Royal | News

On Thursday, the Duchess of Sussex urged U.S. voters to cast their ballots in the upcoming U.S. election in November through a passionate speech during the When All Women Vote initiative.

Despite her resignation as a senior member of the British Royal Family in January, she was announced as a speaker at the event as ‘Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex’.

Members of the British Royal Family are not required by law to vote, but they decide not to exercise their right to remain as neutral as possible.

An interview – that ran Express.co.uk from 2.15pm on August 21st to 10am on August 22nd – asked: ‘Should Meghan Markle drop her title if she wants to get involved in politics? ‘

Of 9,315 votes, 98 percent | (9,098) of people said the Duchess should relinquish her title.

Just two percent (196) said no while 21 people said they did not know.

One person said: “Meghan is still a US citizen so she can vote.

‘If she were to vote this November, she would never have to use her title Duchess of Sussex for any engagements in the US.

“You can not be a Duchess and an American citizen at the same time.”

‘If she does not reject the Duchess’ title herself, then Her Majesty must remove it.

“This case needs to be addressed very soon!”

Someone else reflected that it must be the Queen who stripped Meghan and Prince Harry of their titles.

They said: “If they want to live as private citizens, they will not need their titles.

“The Queen must expel them to save further embarrassment and anger from the British public.”

During her speech, Meghan said: “That you know it’s interesting that we’re having a lot of problems right now in our world, both in the physical world and in the digital world.

“But we can and must do everything we can to make sure all women have heard their voices heard.

“Because we are not part of the solution at the moment, we are part of the problem.

“If you do not go out and vote, then you are employees. If you are self-employed, you are employees.

“And I think if we look at all the different ways we can participate, we can support each other, it doesn’t necessarily matter what the issue is that speaks to your heart: maybe it’s the environment.

“Maybe it’s the rights of women. Maybe it’s the rights of children or maybe it’s health care.

“Whatever it is, we can make a difference in this election and we will make a difference in this election.”
