McGrath reshuffles campaign in house stretch until House elections

Nickolas will remain on the McGrath campaign to oversee his paid media efforts and will retain the title of senior adviser.

“There’s no Washington more destructive than Mitch McConnell – he’s the architect of the dysfunction that hurts Kentuckians,” Kanninen said. “After 36 years, he has only enriched himself, while the Kentucky economy has been devastated, and now he has failed to act in the face of a pandemic. Amy has served her country for more than 20 years, and she will continue to fight for Kentucky as a senator. I’m honored to be a part of that fight. ”

McConnell’s campaign slammed McGrath’s team over the course of the shakeup, saying the Democrat was looking for “someone with better expertise in lighting millions on fire”, apparently referring to Bloomberg’s failed campaign in The White House, in which he sank hundreds of millions of his own dollars.

The uproar of the campaign comes amid warning signs for McGrath, who first caught the attention of Democrats when they lost a House challenge in a Republican neighborhood in 2018.

McGrath, a Marine veteran, raised handsome sums of money in the Kentucky Senate race, raised $ 17.4 million in the second quarter, and has long been the Democratic nominee for McConnell. But they ended up with a smarter than expected primary challenge from State Rep. Charles Booker, finally eking out a 3-point win after climbing the airwaves by almost 10 to 1 margin.

Recent interviews also showed McGrath showing McConnell trailing, with a University of Quinnipiac survey showing her trailing with 5 and a Morning Consult interview showing McConnell with a comfortable 17-point lead. Earlier studies had shown a tighter race.

The Cook Political Report, a nonpartisan election handicapper, rates the House of Representatives race as ‘likely’ Republican.
