McConnell not sure there will be a fifth coronavirus package

Monday doubted whether negotiators could break the impasse on a fifth coronavirus package, though he said he thinks there should be another bill.

“We need another bill and I hope this impasse ends soon. …[But] “I can not tell you here today whether there will be additional relief for health care providers,” McConnell said at an event in Kentucky.

“I hope we talk today is not the last tranche we will make, but from the moment, today, I can not tell you with certainty that we will reach an agreement,” he said, adding that the talks ” further complicated “were by the elections in November.

McConnell’s remarks come after negotiations between the Trump administration and the Democratic Democrats broke down earlier this month, amid deep policies and political differences.

Republicans have driven behind support totaling roughly $ 1 trillion, while the House passed a more than $ 3 trillion package in May. That strategy would then require Democrats and the administration to hash a topline between $ 2 trillion and about $ 2.5 trillion.

However, Mnuchin and Meadows rejected the offer.

McConnell said on Monday that a $ 2.5 trillion bill would be “difficult to justify”.

The Kentucky Republican also gave no indication that he was preparing to return the room early from its three-week break from August, even though the House will return this week for legislation to block changes to the U.S. Postal Service for the presidential election.

He said “nothing was lost” by allowing members to return to their home states, as most were not directly involved in the negotiations.

“The house has not been there most of the time and the talks are taking place between the top leaders. … There was no point in keeping them there, we did not vote on other matters,” McConnell said.

Mnuchin and Meadows enter Senate Republicans every day.
