Matt Harvey’s MLB career in jeopardy after New Royals defeat

The latest to revive his career – and perhaps the third start of the final opportunity – was another dark night for Matt Harvey.

The former Mets all-star was credited for five runs – and three homers – while the Cleveland Indians made just four outs in Tuesday’s 10-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals.

Harvey, who signed as a non-roster free agent in late July, has been tugged for a 15.43 (12 runs in seven innings) ERA from three starts since the Royals activated him on 19 August.

“It just sorted out all sorts pretty quickly,” Harvey said after Tuesday’s game. “I had this kind of experience last week that I had some kind of thing out there and was very excited about it, very excited (Tuesday night) and to show it.

“Obviously, that never happened. I think once I didn’t feel like I did this last week, I think I was looking for it and it was just a kind of struggle from the start. “

Despite surviving a total of 2 innings / innings in his previous two matches, 1-year-old Harvey encouraged his fastball ball to reach at least 94 — 95 miles. But Wright provided homers to Francisco Linder, Frammil Rez and Roberto Perez on Tuesday and could not survive the second inning.

“It’s very frustrating for me to be so frustrated with these people and to struggle so much and really hurt the bullpen,” Harvey said. “I’m not doing my job right now.”

The Royals, who are 14-22 and the last of the AL Central, currently run with a rotation of six men.

Harvey made his 27th star game in 2013 with the Mets in his first full season before Tory John underwent surgery and lost the entire 2014 campaign.

The Connecticut native worked 189 innings and career highs the following year, and 27 more in the postseason to help participate in the 2015 Mets to World Series against Kansas City.

But that was never the case before, who needed thoracic outlet surgery before the end of the 2016 season and was suspended in 2017 for failing to show the game. In May 2018, the Mets traded Harvey to Cincinnati for catcher Devin Mesoraco.

Since the start of 2016, Harvey has posted 19-32 records and 5.72 ERA in 82 games (77 starts), including a 7.09 ERA in 12, starting last season with Los Angeles Angels.
