Massive iPhone 12 leak reveals every detail that was still a mystery – BGR

  • The release date of the iPhone 12 was officially postponed by a few weeks, with a recent leak saying that the non-Pro models could launch in the third week of October, while the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max even further be shoved.
  • Another leaker now says that Apple has begun recording its virtual launch event of the iPhone, a keynote that the leaker presumably attended.
  • In a series of tweets, the leaker revealed the date of the keynote event, details about the iPhone 12 specifications and design, the camera setting for the iPhone 12 Pro models, as well as an estimate of prices.
  • Apple is expected to unveil two Mac models, powered by Apple’s own ARM-based Processors at the event, new iPads, and an unimpressive Apple Watch Series 6. The leaker also announced that the Apple Card will soon expand to different markets.

The four iPhone 12 models that Apple has made for this year’s iPhone launch have been officially delayed. Apple confirmed a few weeks ago that its new iPhones will not be available as stores as planned at the end of September. Instead, they are delayed “several weeks.” A leaker who repeatedly proved that he has access to Apple resources revealed a few days ago that the cheapest iPhone 12 models could be released in the third week of October, a week after a mid-October launch event. The Pros are expected to arrive a few weeks later, in November.

Since then, another source took to Twitter to spill many new details about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 12 launch. This person claims that Apple started recording the iPhone event, indicating that the iPhone keynote will be streamed online like the WWDC 2020 keynote, without an audience. That is understandable, given that the COVID-19 pandemic is far from contained and that there is no telling when it will be under control. The leak also revealed a bundle of new details about the iPhone 12 handsets, some of which correspond to previous leaks.

iPhone 12 event

Twitter user @LeaksApplePro took to Twitter on Sunday to post that the launch event of the iPhone 12 will be recorded at Apple Park beginning this past Monday, and that he would be inside as it happens. He then followed up with various details about what he apparently saw and heard.

A “fitter” Phil Schiller will join the keynote, said the leaker, where Apple will receive more than one ARM-powered Mac, new iPads, the iPhone 12 models, a loud upgrade to the Apple Watch, and “one more thing.”

That one more thing is about the Apple AirPower, the universal charger that Apple introduced a few years ago only to leave it silent. Recent leaks said that the project was not really murdered, and that it is a key piece of the bigger picture. Apple intends to completely drop the Lightning connector into a future portless iPhone.

iPhone 12 design

Some reports earlier this year said the new iPhones would have a smaller notch, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. The size of the rim does not change either, although the handsets have a different design.

The phones will have curved edges, a mix between the iPhone 4 design and the iPhone 11, and they will be available in a new color, blue. As for the camera design on the Pro models, the leaker provided the following schematic:

iPhone 12 specs

The handsets will not have 120Hz or 90Hz screens, and they will not have wireless charging, the leaker said. They are expected to have the new A14 chip, more RAM and a better camera system, consistent with previous reports. We do not need rumors to predict that a new generation iPhone will have better cameras. As for the memory, some Android devices have already moved to RAM which is even faster, and that kind of memory only comes in 6GB modules or higher. Apple probably wants the faster RAM, and that means an upgrade to 6GB.

The phones will have “a little more battery”, although the leaker would not specify what that means.

Other Apple licks

This leak does not come without drama. Apple apparently found out that someone had leaked details of the show’s recording earlier this week. As with all rumors, do not tell if any of this is true. If true, Apple could re-record certain things, although details about the devices obviously will not change at this point.

The leaker said he was accurate about the release of iOS 14 beta 5 to prove he has access to internal information.

In a separate message @LeaksApplePro said the keynote will take place on October 13th or 14th, and the event will be announced on October 1st. He also added that the final version of iOS 14 could be released on October 24th.

The leaker also posted a few details about the alleged delayed AirPods Studio headphones, including a claim that he already has the commercial video for the headphones:

The leaker revealed that he could not see the ads about fears that his identity was discovered:

Finally, he announced that Apple Card will launch in these markets soon:

As with all other leaks and rumors, take everything with a massive grain of salt.
