Mary Trump beats Ivanka: “She does nothing”

  • When it comes to any notion of Ivanka Trump as a “moderating influence” on her father, Mary Trump is simply not having it.
  • “I think she’s the one who refutes that almost daily,” Mary, niece of President Trump, told the Washington Post in a new interview.
  • “She doesn’t do anything,” said Mary. “He throws bromides on social media, but he tries to make an impact and fails, or is just not interested in making an impact.”
  • “I can’t think of one thing I have done to demonstrate that it is a moderate or moderating influence.”

Mary Trump did not hesitate in words when asked about the daughter and adviser of President Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump, during an interview published Thursday by the Washington Post.

White House reporter Ashley Parker asked Mary, niece of President Trump and author of the scathing tell-tale book “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the Most Dangerous Man in the World,” about how Ivanka is sometimes perceived as moderating influence on his father.

“I think she is the one who refutes that almost daily,” Mary told The Post.

“She does nothing. She throws bromides on social media, but she tries to make an impact and fails, or is just not interested in making an impact.”

Ivanka’s notion as a counterweight to President Trump’s more authoritative and impulsive instincts dates back to 2017, when a series of stories were published about his private disapproval of various decisions coming from his father.

Ivanka is one of the most prominent members of the White House staff, occupying a central place on issues such as paid family leave and more nebulous policy portfolio elements such as “entrepreneurship.”

Sometimes Ivanka’s outsized role is teased, like when her father sent her to work at the G-20 summit in 2019.

For all the stories featuring anonymous sources about Ivanka’s so-called moderating influence, she has rarely broken with him on the record in much detail.

“I cannot think of one thing I have done to demonstrate that it is a moderate or moderating influence,” Mary Trump told the Post.
