Maren Morris celebrates Black Woman in country music at CMA

Guy was honored at the 2020 Country Music Association Awards – “The Bones” for the single The Song of the Year and Song The Year and the Female Vocalist the Year.
During an acknowledgment speech for that last one, Morris said there were some singers who said, “I want to recognize them because I’m just a fan of their music, and a country like that comes.”

“I just want to let everyone know how much we love them back and then just check out their music. They’re Linda Martel, Yola, Mickey Gatton, Richie Palmer, Britney Spencer, Ryanon Giddens,” Morris said. “There are a lot of amazing black women who have pioneered and continued this style, and I know they are coming after me, and they have come before me, but you have made this style so beautiful. I hope you know. We’ve seen you. Thank you for inspiring me as a singer in this genre. “

In September, Rolling Stone published an interview with Martel, the first black female solo artist to play Grand Ole Opry in 1969, and in whose style her career fell victim to racism.

Morris’s comment has garnered praise on social media and it’s time to have high discussions about diversity and inclusion in the entertainment industry and the world.
