Zamzamzairani named new president of Maybank

KUALA LUMPUR (October 14): Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) said that its president, Datuk Mohaiyani Shamsudin, will retire on November 1 and will be replaced by Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa.

The appointment of Zamzamzairani confirms a report entitled “Zamzamzairani will be named president of Maybank – sources” published by theedgemarkets.com September 14.

This follows a report from The Edge Malaysia weekly, in its August 10-16 issue, which named him as a possible successor to Mohaiyani. The article noted that Zamzamzairani, 60, had just retired as president of UEM Sunrise Bhd in July.

In a statement today, Maybank said Mohaiyani, 71, will be retiring after nine years of service on Maybank’s board. She was named a director of Maybank in August 2011, before being named president in April 2017.

“It has been a privilege to serve on the Maybank board since 2011. I am especially grateful for the trust placed in me to lead this organization as president for the past 3 1/2 years.

“I am retiring knowing that the group remains on a solid footing to navigate through the current pandemic and emerge even stronger as one of the leading financial services groups in the region,” Mohaiyani said.

Maybank Group Chairman and CEO Datuk Abdul Farid Alias ​​said the board and management are grateful to Mohaiyani for his guidance over the past nine years.

“He has had an illustrious career and his knowledge of the financial services industry is highly sought after and he has willingly shared with all of us,” he said.

Farid also welcomed the appointment of Zamzamzairani as the new president of Maybank, saying, “Zamzamzairani comes with extensive knowledge of the business sector and brings great knowledge, especially in the technology space, critical to Maybank’s future growth and success.”

“The group looks forward to your guidance and leadership as we navigate through the challenging operating environment and continue our growth agenda, with a particular emphasis on further strengthening our digital capabilities,” he added.

Zamzamzairani has a BA in Communications Engineering from Plymouth Polytechnic, UK, and has completed the Corporate Finance, Strategies for Creating Shareholder Value program at Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, USA.

Zamzamzairani, who has vast experience spanning more than 30 years in the telecommunications industry, worked at Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) for 13 years before assuming key positions in various multinationals such as Global One Communications and Lucent Technologies (M) Sdn. Bhd, where he was CEO.

He returned to TM in 2005 as the group’s senior vice president of strategy and technology and was later promoted to CEO of Malaysia Business, before being named the group’s CEO and CEO in April 2008 until his retirement on April 30. 2017.

Under his leadership, TM successfully implemented high-speed broadband service in 2010, in a historic collaboration with the Malaysian government.

Zamzamzairani’s leadership positions in other public companies include Malaysia Airlines Bhd and Malaysia Aviation Group Bhd.
