PETALING JAYA: Law firm Zaid Ibrahim & Co (ZICO) said it will challenge a request for an injunction in court by founding partner Zaid Ibrahim to prevent him from using the ZICO name.

Zaid had said that while he planned to return to private practice, the use of his personal name by the partners would lead people to think that he himself was rendering services on behalf of ZICO.

Therefore, he is seeking a temporary injunction against his former partners not to use the name pending the resolution of a lawsuit.

In a statement, ZICO “firmly” denied the allegations made against the firm and called them “without merit”.

The firm said it would be “responding vigorously through court filings.”

The former de facto law minister said in his lawsuit that in 2018, he wrote to Chew Seng Kok (managing director) and Nik Norzrul Thani Nik Hassan Thani (president) to request that they stop using the ZICO name and return it to him for him. you could start your own business.

The issue was initially resolved when the partners invited him to return to ZICO as equity partner and president.

More than a week after his return, he said, his position at the law firm was terminated for “unauthorized acts,” but details were not specified.

“The alleged termination as president and equity partner was unlawful and I reserve the right to seek appropriate reparations,” Zaid said.
