Umno President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi returned from helping in the election campaign in Sabah on Sunday.

KUALA LUMPUR: The second Covid-19 test performed on Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is facing a criminal trial for breach of trust, corruption and money laundering, came back negative, his lawyer said.

The Reverse Polymerase-Transcriptase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test was performed on Monday.

Lawyer Hamidi Mohd Noh said the defense has informed the court and the prosecution of the result. This was confirmed by the Deputy Clerk of the High Court, Farah Azura Mohd Saad.

During the case hearing on Monday, the court allowed Zahid’s request to have his trial, which had been set for the afternoon and yesterday, postponed as he had to go to the second Covid-19 test.

He had gone to the first test before and the result was negative.

According to the official social media accounts of the president of Umno, Zahid had been in Sabah since last week for the state election campaign and returned on Sunday.

Zahid faces 47 charges – 12 for criminal breach of trust, eight for corruption and 27 for money laundering – involving tens of millions of ringgit in funds belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi.

The hearing continues on Monday.
