LOS ANGELES (Variety.com): YouTube users in various regions of the world encountered problems playing videos on the site on Wednesday.
The site’s TeamYouTube account acknowledged the issues in a Twitter post. “If you are having trouble watching YouTube videos at this time, you are not alone; our team is aware of the problem and is working on a solution. We will continue here with any updates,” he tweeted at 7:23 pm ET.
According to monitoring site DownDetector, user-reported YouTube issues spiked around 7pm ET. Problems seemed most acute in the northeastern United States and western Europe, as well as in Mexico, Australia, and South America. About 95% of the reported problems were with viewing videos, according to DownDetector.

Users who tried to play videos on YouTube videos encountered a spinning wheel, and the videos did not start playing. The problems were evident in both desktop and mobile applications.
