KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Enterprise Commission (SSM) will formulate a suitable method to allow young entrepreneurs and single mothers to benefit from the free business registration scheme, Dewan Rakyat was told.

The Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said the effort will spark business interest and encourage greater participation from groups.

“(This can) generate additional income that can sustain their daily lives and, in turn, boost the growth of the business sector in the country,” he said during the Minister’s question time.

He said this in response to Cha Kee Chin (PH-Rasah) who wanted to know if SSM has provided any assistance to People with Disabilities (PwD), women, youth and students who have just started their business.

For people with disabilities, Nanta said they could take advantage of the 1 PwD 1 (S1OKU1P) business plan that SSM has made available since October 23, 2012 to register new businesses and renew business registration for free.

The minister said that the SSM also encouraged full-time students in public and private higher education institutions to register their businesses for free through the 1 Student 1 Business Plan that was introduced on January 1, 2017.

Meanwhile, Nanta said that the ministry through SSM has implemented eight inclusive initiatives to reduce the burden and pressure faced by merchants and corporate sectors due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

These include the implementation of a 30-day moratorium period from the last date of the Motion Control Order for the submission of SSM legal documents, the waiver of fees for late submission of legal documents, and an extension of time for submit financial statements to SSM, he added. – Called
